The National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW) is a premier national woman's organization in the United States. It is a nonprofit, advocacy and volunteer organization of prominent women dedicated to community service, leadership development, and the enhancement of career opportunities through networking and programming. The membership consists of high achieving women who are committed to reaching out and sharing their expertise and values with others that may not have had similar opportunities. In November, 1995, several prominent San Antonians, San Antonio Organizing Group, met at the Carver Branch of the San Antonio Library to discuss their interest in forming a local chapter. They were given the official authorization from the National Headquarters in New York to proceed with the formation of the San Antonio Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. The goal of the organization is to make a positive, indisputable difference on the lives of our young African American females in this city and to empower African American women, in general, to reach their highest potential as we move to break the "glass ceiling". NCBW is not a social club, but an organization that draws on the strength of its membership to work toward solutions on issues of concern to the contemporary Black woman. An important strategy of NCBW is to develop and deploy a range of services, nationwide, specifically tailored to support the African American woman at key stages of her life and enable her to participate fully in the opportunities, benefits and rewards of American society. |
